Planning a Descriptive Recount

Descriptive writing helps the reader picture a person, animal, place or event. Encourage children to include specific details rather than only naming the topic.

Build the Description

Name the animal or topic.
Describe what it looks like.
Add an action or behaviour.
Explain why the child likes or chose it.

Choose precise describing words and reread the sentence to check that the detail is clear.
