Building Complete Sentences

A complete sentence communicates a clear idea. Children can strengthen sentence writing by checking who or what the sentence is about and what is happening.

Sentence Check

  1. Say the sentence aloud.
  2. Check that the meaning is complete.
  3. Check word order.
  4. Begin with a capital letter and finish with the correct punctuation.

Once a sentence is correct, add one useful detail such as where, when or how something happened.
